The Addition of Sprint Interval Training to Field Lacrosse Training Increases Rate of Torque Development and Contractile Impulse in Female High School Field Lacrosse Players

Field lacrosse requires sudden directional changes and rapid acceleration/deceleration. The capacity to perform these skills is dependent on explosive muscle force production. Limited research exists the potential of sprint interval training (SIT) impact production in field players. purpose this study examine SIT, concurrent field-lacrosse-specific training, rate torque development (RTD), contractile impulse, function female high school players (n = 12; 16 ± 1 yrs.). SIT was performed three times per week, for 12 weeks. Right lower-limb performance assessed pre-, mid-, post-SIT via isometric isokinetic concentric knee extensor contractions. Outcomes included RTD (Nm·s−1), impulse (Nm·s), peak (Nm). first 50 ms contraction improved by 42% midseason remained elevated at postseason (p 0.004, effect size (ES) −577.3 66.5). Contractile demonstrated a across 0–50 (42%, p ES −1.4 0.4), 0–100 (33%, 0.018, 3.1 0.9), 0–200 (22%, 0.031, −7.8 1.6).
